General Touring FAQ
-
Vancouver Island has so much to offer from world-class surfing to skiing. We have endless hiking and mountain bike trails all over the island and some serious rock climbing and alpine routes in Strathcona Park. You could spend a week cruising the south coast exploring empty beaches along the Juan de Fuca trail, all the way to Port Renfrew. We also have Tofino, Canada's best surf town, and a bunch of funky smaller islands to explore.
-
We only allow local travel on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Vans are not permitted to travel on the mainland or to the USA.
-
All of our vans are automatic, so we can give you the authentic Westfalia experience without the hassle of driving a manual.
-
We now provide front facing car seats for our small adventurers, included in the rental fee. We only provide them, setting up the car seats will have to be done by a legal guardian.
-
On our website, you can find a variety of guides that showcase the highlights of the Island. Our vans are vintage vehicles that love to take it easy and pause along the way to discover new things. We will give you tips and recommendations for the best spots and attractions to visit once you get there.

If you're looking to explore the entire island that will require at least 2 weeks - it's bigger than you think!
-
If you take your time, explore on the way, and spend several days around Tofino itself, four days.

The main bed is 54"W x 74"L, just bigger than a Double Bed. The top bunk is a little wider but just as long.

The best place to get clean is at the campsites around Vancouver Island which have modern toilets, showering and BBQ facilities (and most of them have a place to throw away trash). They also provide drinking water and picnic facilities. Recreation centers in most towns (swimming pools, sports centers) will also allow you to use the facilities for a small fee. The price varies but you shouldn’t expect to pay more than $7.
-
No, our campers don’t have a toilet or shower. But don’t worry, there are many gas stations, small shops or restaurants where you can use the bathroom facilities. You can also use them at swimming pools and campgrounds.

Canadian and US drivers are fine, as well as those from English-speaking countries. Others will need an International license. It is in essence, a translation.
-
Yes! We do offer a shuttle service where we will bring you from the airport or ferry to Base Camp in Duncan and set you up with a Westy. Nanaimo is a shorter shuttle to Duncan (45 mins shuttle) but Victoria does have more options for arrival times (1 to 1.5 hr shuttle). If your schedule works, we prefer shuttling from Nanaimo, but we are located in Duncan so you have the options when planning your trip!
-
- Tsawwassen ferry terminal is the quickest to get to from the airport directly: 1 hour by train & bus (depending on schedule) or 30 min Uber
