DYLAN, A VAN, & A PLAN: SUMMER ADVENTURES OF 2025
With the days getting longer and the van already itching to hit the road, I thought I’d share a peek into what’s shaping up to be an unforgettable summer of Westfalia adventures. From the crashing waves of Tofino to the calm, starlit nights by Cowichan Lake, this summer’s all about exploring the Island, chasing sunsets, and joining in on the camping adventures, not just getting you ready and sending you off on yours!!
Here’s where I’m headed:
🐋 Telegraph Cove in June – Whales & Wild Coastlines
Before the summer crowds roll in, I’m hoping to sneak away for a short but sweet overnight trip to Telegraph Cove. Tucked on the northeastern edge of Vancouver Island, it’s one of those magical spots where the ocean feels alive and the forests seem ancient. The plan? A tour with Seasmoke Whale Watching to spot orcas, humpbacks, sea otters and maybe even a few porpoises dancing in the surf.
The cove itself is this tiny, charming boardwalk village, and it feels like stepping back in time. I’m really looking forward to just being on the water, breathing in that wild northern air, and maybe catching a jaw-dropping sunset over the Johnstone Strait.
🌊 Tofino Canada Day Weekend! - Jo’s First trip to Tofino
Next up, we’re taking Jordon, our marketing director, on the island pilgrimage to Tofino to soak up the sun, the salty air, and a slower pace. We’re going to check out a couple campsites, tucked right along the ocean. We will definitely be letting you know about our experience and any hidden gems or local tricks we discover.
We’re planning to spend our days lounging on those dreamy sandy beaches, wandering through quirky novelty shops, and trying a few of the local restaurants, maybe even squeeze in a hike or two if we’re lucky. It’s a perfect little reset before the high season kicks in.
🔥 Weekends at Cowichan Lake – Summer’s Heartbeat
Most weekends, though? I’ll be parked out in Youbou, right on the shores of Cowichan Lake. It’s become the go-to summer gathering spot with friends: think endless swimming, roasted hot dogs over the fire, and clear skies absolutely littered with stars. There’s something magical about pulling up the van, popping the top, and settling in with good company, cold drinks, and no agenda.
It’s simple. It’s soulful. And honestly, it’s the heart of summer for me.
🚐 Other Van Life Vibes
Of course, there’ll be a few spontaneous road trips, probably some beachside coffee mornings, and maybe even a late summer backroad adventure or two. That’s the joy of van life: freedom, flexibility, and always having your cozy little home on wheels wherever you roam.
If you see a Dove Blue Westfalia cruising the Island with the windows down and tunes playing, wave hello — it might just be me.
